Courage
I heard something inspiring the other night that I don't think I've ever really considered in this way. It was from a conversation with actress Glen Close about how she found it terrifying to take on a particular role in a live performance setting. The part that spoke to me was when she said (and I'm paraphrasing), "I do things that terrify me in order to challenge my courage". It made me think of some of the things that I have a tendency to avoid because they take me out of my comfort zone. The truth is to be an effective husband, father, and Christian, or to be able to contribute pretty much anything worthwhile in the world, it takes courage. Exercising courage is just as important to strengthening one's faith as exercising the body is to improving one's physical health or exercising the mind is to improving one's ability to comprehend. I like that. Courage is that thing you get right after you have faith, that says, "let's do this".
